Questions for Consultation

Hi! First post here.

I have my first consultation scheduled for the end of this month. What are some good questions to ask the surgeon? What are things y’all wish you had asked during your consultation appointments?

TIA!

  • How exciting ! Of course be sure to ask the general questions( broad certified etc )  but make sure you ask what is the most common complication that this surgeon sees/their patients encounter? Ask about recovery how long you'd be out of work for ? Ask what type of implants that office uses ( generally they stick to one brand and I'm not sure if one is better than the other but it's good to know especially if you want to do your own research ). The type of anesthesia you will receive ? The total cost of the procedure as will. You don't want to be blind sided by costs.  That's all I can think of for now but my one regret was walking out of an office not nothing anything.  I went to one consultation where the Dr decided everything ( type of implant , size , profile ) without telling me a word. I had to email his office to find out what size or type of implant  so just make sure you ask that if it's not discussed with you.

  • Start looking for pictures of breasts(“boobspiration”) you would like to have and bring them with you to the appointment. They want pictures without clothes it gives them better idea what you want. And questions- I believe Ashley N covered them really well. Good luck! 😘

Ask about the warranty of the implants used .. how often you can expect to see them post op.

Alicia I agree- I would ask the protocol for post op appts. It's good to know how long they will keep an eye on you!

Also, once you show your "goal" pictures, I would ask honestly if he/she thinks it's realistic to expect you to get that result. My surgeon pointed out a few things about my breasts anatomically that I hadn't considered factoring into my end result, and I'm so glad he was upfront about it.

One thing I discussed with my surgeon was options to reduce my need for narcotics. He offered to inject Exparel into the pockets before closing the incisions, and it numbed me for 3 days post op and greatly reducing my need for pain meds.
