Can I have Breast Augmentation if I have chronic sinusitis?
Dr. Michelle Roughton I'm a chronic sinusitis patient who is under an ENT Dr's care. I've reviewed Sientra's patient educational brochure, on page 13, it says people with active infection anywhere in their bodies are contraindicated to have BA surgery. I've also asked my plastic surgeon, he said he doesn't see a problem of having a BA when i'm having sinusitis. Could you please tell me what the risks are to have BA when i also have chronic sinusitis? and why Sientra would say that in the brochure?
I've attached the brochure with this post.
Thank you so much,
So everyone, patients, docs, companies want the least amount of complications possible. Certainly it is never indicated to place a foreign body in the setting of active infection as the likelihood of the prior infection setting up shop on the new device is real. Now your case is different from having say an acute appendicitis or buttock abscess (ewww I know!). You have a chronic inflammatory condition likely made better with nasal steroids and occasional antibiotics. If you're fever free and feeling well around the time of surgery I suspect you'll be fine. If you want a more educated opinion on chronic sinusitis, I would ask your ENT. He or she probably has more experience discussing how to best optimize you prior to your implant surgery. Good luck!!
I would be honored to see you at my office in Raleigh, NC!
