Singulair

I’m 5.5 weeks PO and my PS is concerned I might be forming a capsular contracture. He massaged it very roughly today and told me I need to do the same daily. He’s hoping the muscle is just pissed off and that it will drop soon. I asked him for Singulair and he said it’s hard on the liver and he’s not sure it even works... What are your thoughts on this? I’m thinking of telling him I want to try so at least I can say I’ve tried everything.

  • Hi Laura Nelson .  I actually had not heard of singulair and hepatic toxicity.  I quickly searched for it and it's described but incredibly rare.  I have had some very good success with it and (to date) not had anyone have any side effect I could attribute to it.  I tell patients it's well tolerated and that has been my experience.  I think at 5.5 weeks if you have not had capsular contracture before it is much more likely to be a "pissed off" muscle.  Singulair is an anti-inflammatory drug, like ibuprofen, but down a different pathway.  It may help your angry pec too.  I might ask for it if it were me.  Good luck!

As always – I would be so honored to see you at my offices in Raleigh, NC!

  • Mine got so much softer after I began sleeping on them. Do you sleep on your stomach yet?

Laura Nelson I am glad you are seeing a difference after sleeping in your breasts. Are you still going to try the Singulair?

  • Me and my 3 kids ages 11, 5 and 3 all take singular. No complications and we have been taking it for years... obviously not related to the BA. I had one side that took longer to drop.. i am 3m post op and all is perfect! Massage and I would band 1 side as long as I could tolerate. Best of luck..

  • I’ve been taking Singular for allergies for years and have had no complications. How does it help with capsular contracture?
