Malposition lateral or rotation

How do you determine when malposition happens.?? One implant shifts past armpit laying down and standing up it seems rotated in shape compared to the other. How to tell if it's not settled in the pocket. I have overs silicone

  • Is your implant round?  If it's round (not teardrop) it can only flip back to front.  It's possible and most commonly seen with the Allergan highly cohesive series "C". I can tell by visual and physical exam and I can often flip it back without surgery. Now as to moving laterally when lying down--lateral displacement--some is normal.  Our natural breasts move laterally when we lie down and our implants will move some too to some extent.  Now if the implants move too far or one moves out more than the other (sometimes you can see your ribs it can move so far) then often that needs to be fixed in the operating room.  Hope this helps!

I would be honored to see you at my office in Raleigh, NC!

Dr. Michelle Roughton it's Sientra HSC Smooth round HP 700. And I realize our natural breast go lateral but I literally have to pick my left side up and move it. Hard to explain it just feels floppy๐Ÿ˜‚ .Even leaning back sitting up there is an indention and it must be my ribs that I'm seeing on my chest wall.

It doesn't seem to have bottomed out, it appears the top just disappeared or went sideways. Had surgery end of May.

    • Sharonann could be lateral displacement.  When my patients have that (and it bothers them), we go back to surgery and tighten the outside aspect of the pocket to force it towards the middle).

Dr. Michelle Roughton pictures may help right, I thought I had attached it.  It's my left breast, which I am left handed, the outward curve is noticable on the 2nd picture

    • Sharonann So it is lateral displacement but I suspect there isn't an easy permanent fix for this other than a breast lift.  The breast skin itself isn't super tight so in pocket correction I don't know that it would hold.  No one wants a scar on their breast but I'm now 2 months from my breast lift and they've literally NEVER looked better.  Hope this helps!

Dr. Michelle Roughton yes it does help, I know I seen you mention some lifts do better can't remember which one...lollipop vs donut I think.. lol.

Shame it's been 3 months and already need a lift, I have so much skin to fill up.

What is the better lift? Or one you recommend.

    • Sharonann Lollipop best or anchor, not donut.  I would have done the lift up front but many folks still stage them.
