Mommy makeover- belly button concern

11 Days Post Op. I need some advice. My new belly button is completely flat. I'm worried it will heal and I'll have like no belly button or just a circular scar!

I had a full tummy tuck and breast implants. Everything looks fantastic except my belly button. When I woke up from surgery I asked him about it and he said that he couldn't get it to go in any further. He said it would have sacrificed   blood supply?  HELP!

  • Can he do a revision (at a great discount or free) later on to give you a better button?

  • I see it.  I am sorry this has happened to you.  Did you happen to have a belly button hernia?  That's the only time I worry about the umbilical blood supply. IN short, belly buttons have two blood supplies--one from the skin around it, and one from the stalk.  When we cut around it we divide the skin one.  THat only leaves the stalk.  If there's a hernia in the stalk, which makes it bulge out, it can be unsafe to repair the hernia at the same time.  I bet that's what happened.  So here's the good news.  Once you're healed, you can get a general surgeon to repair your umbilical hernia.  Hopefully laparoscopically.  Then a plastic surgeon can, in a second stage, tack that belly button back down to your fascia.

I would be honored to see you at my office in Raleigh, NC!

Thank you so much for your answer! To my knowledge I didn't have a hernia. I had been checked at one point. I had diastasis recti, 2 fingers width apart. And after 3 kids my belly button never really went back in all the way. He said he will be able to revise it in a year and a half but is not sure how much more he can make it go in, he said that it's not very typical either.  I also added photos to my original post.
