Massaging

How exactly should I be massaging? I’m 9 days post op. My surgeon said to start massaging and he kind of just showed me to rub on the top of my breast and said to make sure to do the sides so they don’t want to “go that way”... I asked for clarification, but he just said the same thing.

I’m confused as to what to do. I know that there’s a good chance I can’t actually hurt myself doing what I’m doing 🤣 I just want to make sure I’m doing it correctly.

  • Hey Kate Taylor you got this!  Massage is mostly to get your pec to relax and when it does that everything looks better.  You can pinch from the top and toggle the implant back and forth.  You can lean against a wall, you can lie on them on the floor.  There's 1,000,000 ways to do it but all you're accomplishing is muscle relaxation, like rubbing a Charlie horse in your leg.

Dr. Michelle Roughton does massaging have anything to do with capsular contracture?

And I saw on another post that you had mentioned singular for CC. Is that over the counter or do I need a prescription? Do you always have to take it or only for a certain time?

My surgeon doesn’t seem worried about CC and says with saline I only have a 1-4% chance.........

    • @Kate Taylor  Hey great questions (and I'm psyched you're reading my answers!).  You don't have cap con at 9 days post op.  I promise.  No data supporting massage, link below.  I like massage for pain and muscle spasm.  we also recommend taking warm showers which helps the muscle relax.

I only do Singulair prophylactically in implant exchanges, especially those with a history of capsular contracture.
